DGE Jerry and Kathy Shepard Attend Rotary International Assembly
Posted By admin
DGE Jerry states that the visit to the Rotary International Assembly in San Diego was a humbling experience. To have all the District Governor Elects from all over the world in one hotel with trainers and officers of Rotary brings to light how wide the influence of Rotary is and how proud we should be to be a part of this organization of 537 districts and some 34,000 clubs from everywhere. To exchange greetings and small gifts with fellow Rotarians from Egypt, Wales, Togo, Chile, Australia, Brazil, India, etc. and hear of the good works they are doing and what they want to do to make this a better world. Jerry found some conversations challenging due to the differences in languages spoken by the many attendees. RI President-elect Gary C.K. Huang chose “ Light Up Rotary” as his theme for 2014-2015. Huang was inspired by the teachings of Chinese philosopher Confucious who said: “It is better to light a single candle, than to sit and curse the darkness”. It is DGE Jerry’s goal that Rotarians in District 6860 continue to light many candles with the service projects we are presently doing and will do in the future.
