Findings from the Archaeological Survey of the Site of the New Embassy Suites Hotel

Matthew Gage is the director of the University Of Alabama Office Of Archaeological Research. He directed a team of 25 people on the excavation project.

The building site was once the location of the first Bank of the State in Tuscaloosa, the Broadway Hotel and the Drisch warehouse, which was also a Union prisoner of war camp during the Civil War.

Matthew will have artifacts on display.  The survey dig yielded a rich amount of items reflecting a fascinating and informative picture of the past.  It sets up the following week’s program by Kemmons Wilson, the developer of the hotel.
