Congratulations to our own Jerry Shepherd, who has been chosen as district governor for Rotary International District 6860 for 2014-15.

The induction ceremony for Jerry will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at Indian Hills Country Club in lieu of the club’s regular meeting.District 6860 covers the northern half of Alabama and has 3,846 members in 56 clubs. Jerry will be the official representative of Rotary International for our club and the district during that year. He is the 12th district governor from our club, one more than the Rotary Club of Birmingham (but who’s counting, right?)

Jerry has been in Rotary since 1985, serving as president of Placentia Rotary Club in California in 1991-92. He then served as aide to the District 5320 governor. He attended International Rotary Conventions in Portland, Mexico City, San Antonio, Chicago, New Orleans, Lisbon and Sydney. He was the Rotary Foundation chair for the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa and Future Vision Chair for APF and Permanent Fund for District 6860. He visited Rotary International headquarters in Evanston in 2005, 2009 and 2013. He served as a Training Leader at Mid South PETS. He served District 6860 as Assistant Governor for Area 5 and is now District Governor Elect for District 6860.

Jerry owned and operated camera stores and film processing labs in Orange County, California. In 2005 he retired to move back to Northport with his wife Kathy. He has two daughters and three grandchildren. Kathy and Jerry attend Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.
