This Week: November 22nd The American Village Celebrates Liberty

We recognize liberty is one of our nation’s most sacred values. Few have done more to celebrate it and cultivate it, though, than Tom Walker.
Walker, who will visit the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa this week, is the founder and CEO of The American Village. Located near Montevallo, the Village is a full-scale recreation of a Revolutionary-era township, complete with character actors in period costumes. Like its more famous counterpart at Colonial Williamsburg, it offers visitors a chance to step back in time, to encounter and re-live the drama of liberty and Revolution at the heart of our nations founding.
More broadly, the Village is Walker’s attempt, in the words of his mission statement, “to strengthen and renew the foundations of American liberty and self-government through educating and inspiring citizens, leaders, and stewards.” Accordingly the Village offers visitors, and especially school children, a wide range of educational programs centered on Revolutionary-era history.
The Village opened on November 30, 1999, and over the past decade and more as welcomed thousands of students and tourists through its campus. It has also been “nationally recognized for its work in building good citizens on the foundations of American liberty and self-government.”
